SK Hynix has adopted Siemens’ Polarion ALM software for application lifecycle management, helping the firm achieve the first ASPICE automotive semiconductor software quality certification in South Korea.

ASPICE (Automotive Software Process Improvement Capability dEtermination) is an industry-standard guideline for evaluating software development processes. ASPICE helps automotive suppliers incorporate best practices to identify defects earlier in the development cycle and ensure that OEM requirements are met.

According to SK Hynix, it has deployed Polarion, part of Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of industry software, to improve the quality of the semiconductor product development and manage the software development lifecycle.

The company said this has led to a systematic approach to product design, workflows and processes, the efficiency and productivity of product line engineering and semiconductor R&D have improved.

Siemens Digital Industries Software Korea’s country manager and vice president, Byung Joon Oh, said SK Hynix has received the international quality certification and the firm will provide technical support for SK Hynix’s business to expand globally.

SK Hynix achieved the ASPICE Certification Level 2 earlier this year and will continue to pursue Level 3 and above.

SK Hynix’s vice president, Hoon Cho, said attaining ASPICE CL2 certification has been an opportunity for global automakers to objectively recognise the reliability of the semiconductor quality of the company at a global level.
