Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), research company WRI Indonesia and Singapore-based venture capitalist firm East Ventures have launched Ecovisea - a web-based global greenhouse gas (GHG) emission calculator.
Ecovisea stands for Emission Calculator & Visualisation Southeast Asia and will help Indonesian MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), and startups calculate their carbon footprint for free.
It assesses emissions across three domains: emissions originating from company-owned sources, stemming from purchased energy, and indirect emissions linked to other facets of a company's value chain.
The emission factor data used in Ecovesia is provided by the carbon calculation platform - Climatiq.
The aim is to help companies contribute toward the Paris Agreement’s goal of capping global temperature increases at 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050.
East Ventures’ partner Avina Sugiarto said the platform simplifies the previously manual carbon calculation process while helping businesses to visualise GHG emission sources.
Users can identify emission reduction strategies, Sugiarto added.
Companies receive real-time calculation result
Companies can register for an account. Upon verification and registration, users are directed with step-by-step instructions to upload data into the company account dashboard.
Once the data is filled in, the company receives real-time calculation results and reports presented in data sets and visualisations.
According to Kadin Indonesia, the report includes emission counts, data breakdowns, and time trend analyses.
It added that companies can save drafts and update data at any stage of the process, allowing users to make adjustments as needed.
The company’s input data into the tool will be exclusively used for calculating the company’s GHG emissions and the tool will temporarily retain the data inputs to generate the dashboard.
Ecovisea integrates with the data privacy system, limiting the authority to access, enter, and modify the company data to only accounts registered using the company’s email domain.
