Japan's largest telecommunications company, NTT DOCOMO, is enhancing its application delivery infrastructure and operational efficiency in collaboration with enterprise automation software company UiPath.
A DOCOMO spokesperson said the company’s services and application delivery uses numerous infrastructure systems to support the company’s extensive operations in Japan.
However, these systems have become legacy infrastructure given that they've been set up more than 30 years ago, the spokesperson added.
To address the issue, DOCOMO’s Service Design Department has incorporated the UiPath Test Suite to test mobile applications and this also includes a server-side testing tool that is capable of testing both the application and server operation in a single pass, the spokesperson said.
DOCOMO is using UiPath to automate the testing process since many of its mobile applications were developed by different departments within the company or external vendors and the testing team faced challenges in conducting detailed test processes as they lacked the relevant technical expertise.
The UiPath Test Suite has also helped increase the frequency of mobile application releases from quarterly to bi-weekly. Additionally, the team was also able to perform a full test in one hour as compared to taking an entire day prior to implementing the UiPath Test Suite.
Reduced testing time
Since deploying the UiPath Test Suite the Service Design Department has significantly reduced the mobile application test time in the learning, specification creation and execution processes from two weeks to several days, the spokesperson said.
With the UiPath Test Suite, multiple team members are now able to share test creations, eliminating the pressure for a single person to create all the tests.
As a result, the number of test scenarios has steadily increased.
To date, 80 test scenarios have already been developed for testing the delivery infrastructure, the spokesperson said.
As a next step, NTT DOCOMO is planning to expand test automation to other platforms in its Service Design Department.
UiPath’s Co-CEO, Rob Enslin, said, “We are pleased to play an integral role in NTT DOCOMO’s automation journey, by helping them increase operational efficiency and drive better business outcomes. We will continue to support NTT DOCOMO in democratising automation and building the foundation for continuous and evolving innovation as they widen their automation efforts in other business areas”.
