MobiFone, the Vietnamese telecommunications corporation has signed a 5G collaboration agreement with Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2023) in Barcelona, Spain.
The company will collaborate with Nokia for 5G technologies and cloud infrastructure. Nokia will also help in defining MobiFone's medium to long-term network evolution roadmap, experiences in 5G deployment and applying technologies.
MobiFone will get Fixed-wireless Access (FWA) service on the 5G platform and explore business opportunities for enterprises using Nokia’s advanced technology for industries.
“Looking at the long-term cooperation relationship between MobiFone and Nokia, we have always made great efforts to promote and enhance each other's strengths for mutual development.
"MobiFone expects that this cooperation agreement will help upgrade the relationship between the two parties," said MobiFone Chairman Nguyen Hong Hien at the signing ceremony.
The Chairman of Vietnam's Commission for the Management of State Capital Enterprises (CMSC), Nguyen Hong Anh, said the cooperation will create favourable conditions for investment and trade exchange between Vietnam and Finland in particular and Vietnam and the European Union in general.
“This is also an opportunity for Nokia to develop more market share in the coming time. The CMSC is waiting for positive changes after the signing of this cooperation agreement,” Nguyen Hong Anh said.
CMSC is a Vietnamese government entity charged with oversight of companies. In 2018, Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications transferred the ownership of telecom service providers VNPT and MobiFone to the CMSC.
CMSC's Nguyen said the opportunity will help Nokia develop more market share in the coming time.
“The CMSC is waiting for positive changes after the signing of this cooperation agreement,” he added.
MobiFone said cooperation with Nokia will open up new opportunities, helping complete core tasks in five-to-six national digital transformation platform groups.
Nokia’s chief customer experience officer, Ricky Corker, said the partnership will help “grow” the 5G market for MobiFone and “benefit consumers and enterprise customers” in Vietnam.
