Shangri-La Group's hotel brand Jen has implemented a contactless check-in solution that uses NEC Corporation’s facial recognition technology and e-visitor authentication features in two hotels under the brand, Jen Singapore Orchardgateway and Jen Singapore Tanglin.

According to NEC Asia Pacific, the solution offers a speedy, contactless check-in and check-out process which reduces contact with hotel staff and ensures a smooth and seamless experience for guests from the hotel lobby to their rooms.

Based on NEC’s biometric technologies marketed as “Bio-IDiom”, the contactless solution, deployed at standalone kiosks in the lobby of the two Jen hotels, verifies guests’ identity and validates their stay with the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

It eliminates manual checks on travel documents and is claimed to reduce check-in times by up to 70 percent.

"With the added check-in resource, we could minimise the time guests spend waiting in queues," Jen Singapore Orchardgateway's general manager Allen Khoo said. "It relieves the administrative workload”.

NEC APAC partnered with Hotel Jen to co-create the solution.

The vendor said that two contactless kiosks at a midscale hotel could handle "at least 50 percent to 80 per cent capacity of daily check-ins and outs."

A typical kiosk set-up may take about a month depending on the number of sites the solution is deployed in, and if there are additional requirements or customisations requested by the customer.
