Swiss chocolate and cocoa maker Barry Callebaut Group is setting up a new Asia Pacific business excellence centre in Malaysia that will host its regional IT function and other corporate shared services.

The new centre, located in Petaling Jaya, is expected to be fully operational in the third quarter of 2022.

“This location makes the centre easily accessible from Barry Callebaut's existing cocoa and chocolate factory located in Port Klang, Selangor, where the group has built shared functions and corporate services capabilities over the past few years,” it said in a statement.

“About 115 employees are expected to move from the Port Klang site to the new location”.

It was not immediately clear how many of the 115 employees are in IT.

Asia Pacific president Jo Thys said the centre is being created to achieve “business benefits such as further standardisation of processes and increased operational efficiency to make us more competitive”.
