Malaysia’s Bank Rakyat has teamed up with CelcomDigi to enhance customer experience by implementing 5G connectivity.

The initial phase of this collaboration will see the bank installing 5G connectivity to its Bank Bergerak fleet that serve as portable branches, providing vital banking facilities to customers across rural areas of the country.

Bank Rakyat's CEO, Dato Mohammad Hanis Osman, said this move will enable "smoother transactions and real-time updates during banking activities irrespective of fleet's location."

CelcomDigi will also provide solutions to “ensure seamless 5G connectivity in some of Bank Rakyat branches across Malaysia, as well as enhancing the security and surveillance for off-premises, further safeguarding customers’ transactions," he added.

Osman said these initiatives will create avenues for additional digitalisation solutions and applications, improving the Bank's digital capabilities as part of its five-year strategic plan, BR25.

“We are creating this synergy to further enhance customers' banking experience with stable technology applications and a secure business environment, especially in extending financial services to the unbanked, unreached, and underserved communities,” he said.

Earlier in June, Bank Rakyat partnered with Touch ‘n Go eWallet to enable in-app bill payments via JomPAY, a national bill payment service to enhance its digital payment capabilities.

Bank Rakyat also plans to explore digital IoT opportunities, especially in cloud and cybersecurity solutions in future.
