In a first collaboration between global tech, logistics and infrastructure providers, Dell, FedEx, and data centre company Switch will be teaming up to create a network of multi-cloud edge computing sites.
The hubs will be located in FedEx’ facilities, and the first one is being developed in Memphis, US. The services offered through the partnership will allow organisations to make real-time decisions using capabilities like artificial intelligence, machine learning and 5G.
With edge computing, data does not need to traverse networks back to other data centers. It also enables organisations to make real-time decisions by using technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and 5G.
Switch will provide the Switch MOD 15, a Class 4 Edge data center, and connect it to its prime data centre locations. Dell servers, hyperconverged infrastructure, storage, and networking gear will be used along with managed services. FedEx will provide real estate and cover a portion of construction and infrastructure costs.
By 2030, Dell has pledged to reuse or recycle an equivalent product for every Dell product a customer buys; FedEx will use its global citizenship initiative to decrease the company's environmental footprint and achieve its corporate sustainability goals; and Switch has committed to operate its data centre campus locations and edge deployments with 100% clean energy.
