The Philippines’ largest telecommunications company PLDT has achieved improvements in delivering services to its customers by deploying an observability platform from IT security firm Gigamon.
Through its principal business groups – from fixed line to wireless – PLDT offers a wide range of telecommunications and digital services across its extensive fibre optic backbone, and fixed line and cellular networks.
Gigamon’s solutions will help PLDT by providing 100 percent visibility into its large and highly decentralised environment, with 400,000 assets scattered across the Philippines and beyond to maintain compliance with multiple regulations requiring uninterrupted services, a PLDT spokesperson said.
PLDT Group’s chief information security officer Angel Redoble said that visibility and security were directly tied to their revenue growth and they could now achieve it with the Gigamon solutions.
“We can deliver our 71 million users, with secure internet and telecom services,” he added.
This deep observability product allows PLDT to look into all network traffic to assure security and compliance.
Other benefits include having visibility into the network layer, and securing and delivering uninterrupted internet and telecom services, he explained.
PLDT has multiple regulators, under whose scope the company must continuously protect its infrastructure to prevent service interruptions.
Redoble said, “Gigamon has reduced the organisation’s risks to the lowest level possible.”
The solution
To achieve pervasive visibility, PLDT has deployed network test, terminal, or test access points (TAPs) and aggregators across its entire infrastructure, along with umbrella fabric management systems GigaVUE H Series and GigaVUE-FM.
“The network TAP technology provides access to the traffic required to secure, monitor, and manage the network infrastructure continuously and efficiently,” he said.
GigaVUE-FM fabric manager provides an intuitive web-based centralised interface to configure, manage, and operate the visibility nodes across multiple locations through a single pane of glass.
This provides us with comprehensive traffic and security intelligence at scale, he added.
GigaVUE H Series provides visibility for active and passive security as well as network and application monitoring.
Redoble said they are enhancing their focus to providing continuous service to customers and ultimately enabling sustainable revenue growth.
