Japanese shipping firm Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) is partnering with Informatica to use the latter's AI-powered Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) to simplify its core systems and improve data-led decision-making.

The firm is using IDMC’s Cloud Data Integration and Cloud Application Integration services as its new SaaS and iPaaS platform to link diverse systems and utilise data held by various departments to increase sales, reduce costs and enhance corporate value.

According to the shipping firm, it was looking to reduce costs and manual workloads associated with maintaining and operating an on-premises system and decided to move its mission-critical workloads and data to a new multi-cloud environment for agility and cost efficiency.

MOL was also looking to connect enterprise systems and enterprise resource applications, including SAP S/4HANA, business intelligence systems and data across business functions, including finance, planning and operation, to leverage high-quality, trusted data for decision-making.

With IDMC’s low-code/no-code development environment, it can scale its data integration and eliminate data silos.

This empowers users to drive data visibility across business functions, including finance, sales, shipping, and back-office operations.

Connecting mission-critical enterprise applications

MOL’s group executive officer, Ryoji Mitani, said Informatica's cloud data integration and cloud application integration solutions on IDMC enable a new robust core system to be built where multiple mission-critical enterprise applications are connected in near real-time to drive analytics and insights for ship and vessel operations and business management.

Under the company's Blue Action 2035 plan, the goal is to solve sustainability issues, including GHG emissions, using digital technology's power.

The core system, Informatica’s IDMC, used as the data management layer, serves as a foundation to promote digital transformation, Mitani added.

Informatica Japan’s managing director and president, Shunichi Watanabe, said that the firm’s cloud data integration and cloud application integration capabilities enable MOL to simplify core system modernisation projects, including SAP modernisation and multiple SaaS implementations.

The customer’s line-of-business users can manage and extract data that support their business needs, he added.
