LG Electronics is planning to develop cross-platform AI-powered services with Korea telco KT Corp to expand use of its human-like algorithms.
Both companies plan to commercialise services that support AI platforms after developing a joint interface. This comes after the verification of compatibility between LG's ThinQ and KT's GiGA Genie AI platforms.
The announcement shows a renewed focus on AI and connected technologies, coming soon after LG said it is shutting its mobile business.
The Korean tech company has been testing its smart mirror to find out whether its smart home solutions can work with KT's AI platform that provides radio, music and other digital services.
In a press statement, LG said it expects the company's smart mirror to be a hub of AI services at home but will expand usability in other consumer electronics products in cooperation with KT.
Their collaboration also includes the participation of several partners from the AI One Team, a local industry-academic AI research group whose members include Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, LG Uplus, Dongwon Group and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
