IHH Healthcare (IHH), an integrated healthcare provider has migrated its workloads to cloud for improving operational efficiency and patient outcomes.

The organisation's Singapore operations will be moved to Oracle Exadata Database Service on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), while Malaysia opts to migrate its database workloads to Oracle's on-premises cloud solution - Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer.

IHH Healthcare group's chief information officer, Linus Tham said the team believes in transformative power of modern technology to enhance patient outcomes.

"With the support of Oracle Exadata Database Service on the Exadata platform in Singapore and Malaysia, we are able to leverage cloud benefits while complying with local regulatory requirements," he added.

Tham said this migration is also a significant step towards establishing unified digital ecosystem, crucial for dismantling data silos, and enhancing data analytics capabilities for their physicians.

IHH is one of Asia's largest healthcare networks with more than 80 hospitals across 10 countries including Singapore and Malaysia. It needed a robust database platform to manage massive amounts of data and keep them secured.

It selected the Oracle services for its scalable performance and integrated availability, data protection and disaster recovery capabilities that are critical to support continuous operations.

Improving services

IHH adopted Oracle Exadata Database Service for the versatility of Oracle Database on purpose-built, optimised infrastructure deployed on public and hybrid clouds.

Built-in cloud automation, elastic resource scaling, security, and fast performance for all Oracle Database workloads could also help simplify management and reduce costs.

IHH Singapore migrated its core application workloads including its Electronic Medical Records used by more than 5,000 staff to support its patients, enterprise data warehouse and laboratory information systems.

The Malaysia group has consolidated and migrated its database workloads including its patient management system, appointment booking system, lab information, and billings to meet stringent data residency and compliance requirements.

By consolidating its disparate on-premises database systems in the cloud, IHH said it improves patient and clinician user experiences with faster and more reliable access to secure, up-to-date information.

Tham said this transformation aligns with the company's strategy to use innovative technologies such as AI to deliver improved healthcare services.
