And standardise labelling.

The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) is working to enhance cybersecurity standards for IoT devices to ensure consumer confidence and safety in interconnected digital landscape.

It has signed a mutual recognition arrangement (MRA) with the Connectivity Standards, established in 2002 to create and manages internet of things (IoT) technology standards.

The primary objective is to enable global cooperation, streamline testing procedures, and reduce costs for manufacturers.

MRA aims to enhance security measures for consumer IoT devices globally by sharing and aligning information about relevant standards, requirements, and practices related to cybersecurity labelling.

CSA’s deputy chief executive, Chua Kuan Seah, said since the launch of the Cybersecurity Labelling Scheme in 2020, one of the key objectives has been to achieve global alignment for consumer IoT cybersecurity.

“Singapore had earlier achieved mutual recognition of IoT cybersecurity labels with Finland and Germany.”

The agreement will provide incentives to manufacturers to incorporate cybersecurity-by-design and cybersecurity-by-default into IoT devices, Seah said.

Recently, the Alliance announced IoT Device Security Specification and the accompanying certification and labelling program.

It will allow the collaboration to strengthen and enhance efforts and information exchange in areas related to consumer IoT labelling, including regulations, requirements, conformity assessment procedures, standards and standardisation.

Connectivity Standards Alliance’s president and CEO, Tobin Richardson, said the collaboration with CSA will help expand the programme’s global reach for the benefit of manufacturers and consumers.
