GenNext Technologies, the joint venture partner of Bangladesh Data Center Company Ltd (BDCCL) has launched Bangladesh’s first cloud data centre - Meghna Cloud.
Located at Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City in Kaliakoir of Gazipur, the data centre spans 200,000 sq ft.
It will provide cloud infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking equipment and associated software technology to government and private entities.
Currently, most of Bangladesh's data is stored in Singapore-based servers.
Telecommunications and Information Technology’s state minister for posts, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, said the new data centre will help save foreign currency the country spends annually on purchasing and using cloud technology, and ensure data security.
Under the agreement, GenNext handles the building of the data centre and covers operations and maintenance for Meghna Cloud, while BDCCL looks after sales and marketing of the offering.
GenNext Technologies’ vice chairman, Javed Opgenhaffen, said the company is planning to invest around US$500 million (S$674 million) within the next five years for this project.
