Antina - the joint venture formed by mobile network operators M1 and StarHub - has given a 10-year extension to Finnish telecom gear maker Nokia to improve the 5G connectivity experience for businesses and consumers in Singapore.
Nokia will deploy a 5G standalone (SA) network for the JV that would provide for both indoor and outdoor coverage and expand the existing network riding on Antina’s spectrum holdings in Singapore.
Antina’s CEO, Danny Tan, said the company is building a 5G network in Singapore with “ultra-high speeds” that will deliver new use cases across entertainment, gaming, education, healthcare, and transportation.
Further, Nokia will equip new buildings across Singapore with its AirScale indoor Radio (ASiR) - a small wireless device that can be installed inside buildings to improve cell phone coverage and internet connectivity.
The company will also provide other equipment from its AirScale portfolio, including 5G base stations, massive MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) adaptive antennas for urban and wide-area coverage, and dual-band remote radio heads.
Under the deal, Nokia will utilise Antina's spectrum in the 2.1 GHz and 3.5 GHz bands, to provide a good combination of capacity and coverage to the two Singapore telcos.
