Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM) is upgrading railway communications network ahead of the launch of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Orange Line.

The new 35.9 km Orange Line will connect the east and west sides of Bangkok, and includes both underground and elevated sections.

The project involves the deployment of a mission-critical IP/MPLS Backbone Transmission Network (BTN).

The upgraded network will support vital and non-vital railway applications, including CCTV surveillance, public announcements, passenger information displays, radio communication, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.

BEM aims to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency for passengers.

Nokia, ST Engineering, and First One Systems are collaborating on the project.

Completion is expected by 2030.

The new communications backbone will allow real-time coordination across stations and the Operations Control Centre (OCC).

BEM will also gain enhanced network visibility and reduced operational complexity.

The system is designed for low-latency, secure transmission of voice, data, and video.

The technology includes 10G and 40G BTNs, Nokia 7250 Interconnect Router, Nokia 7210 Service Access System, and a service management platform.

First One Systems emphasised its role in providing local integration and operational expertise.
