Open DC, the data centre arm of Malaysia-based Extreme Broadband (EBB), has planned to modernise AI data centres to enhance security and network performance.
EBB has signed a contract agreement with Nokia for this.
It will use Nokia’s IP network solution to interconnect Open DC’s data centres across six sites.
The facilities include CJ1 Cyberjaya, JB1 Menara MSC Cyberport, JB2 Menara Ansar in Johor Bahru, PE1 Menara Suntech, and PE2 Bayan Lepas Industrial Park in Penang.
It also includes the upcoming D8-1 in Kedah.
This partnership addresses the stringent requirements of the banking and financial services industry.
It aligns with Malaysia’s National Cloud Computing Policy and the government’s MYDIGITAL vision.
Open DC will use Nokia’s IP networking portfolio, including its data centre gateway, data centre fabric, and quantum-safe networks solution.
It is deploying Nokia’s 7250 and 7220 Interconnect Routers to deliver higher performance while reducing energy consumption.
Nokia’s 7250 Interconnect Router and 7220 Interconnect Routers are also being deployed to reduce energy consumption.
The infrastructure upgrade introduces automation and DDoS mitigation tools, ensuring resilience against cyber threats.
MoU for co-innovation
Alongside the contract, EBB and Nokia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The partnership focuses on developing advanced data centre solutions and quantum-safe networks.
Both companies will create a joint go-to-market strategy for AI and data centre connectivity.
The offerings include multi-cloud access, enterprise connectivity, and DDoS protection for tenants.
They will also test and validate the data centre gateway, data centre fabric with event-driven automation tools, and DDoS mitigation capabilities.
Open DC’s managing director, Wong Weng Yew, said Nokia’s solutions will allow the company to enhance security, scalability, and sustainability while creating new revenue streams for enterprises.
