South Korea’s Semyung University has modernised its campus IT infrastructure to address frequent system failures, limited storage space, and inadequate backup capabilities.

It has improved the data backup system and established a recovery system to respond to cyber threats.

The aim is to enhance academic operations and research capabilities.

The university has selected solutions from NetApp, in collaboration with IT specialist KL Information & Communication.

Following the implementation, Semyung University saw a three-fold improvement in the performance of its academic administration system.

It has experienced a doubling of data storage capacity.

Semyung University’s president, Dong-Hyun Kwon, said the university's IT infrastructure has been improved, allowing to simplify the complex backup environment by consolidating with a single vendor.

By adopting NetApp’s FAS8300 and MetroCluster solutions, the university ensures data protection and security, even during physical storage interruptions.

A remote FAS2820 DR system was established using SnapMirror to prepare for disasters and emergencies.

NetApp has implemented its ONTAP Autonomous Ransomware Protection (ARP) feature, to automatically detect and generate snapshots in case of ransomware encryption.

The SnapRestore allows for instantaneous point-in-time recovery.

A backup system utilising SnapVault was constructed to handle data failures.

NetApp’s Area VP and general manager, Greater China, ASEAN, and South Korea, Henry Kho, said, the storage and backup solutions have improved the university's IT infrastructure.

It has enabled faculty and students to learn and research in a stable and efficient environment, Kho added.

The ability to operate uninterrupted and enable remote DR via MetroCluster over IP networks has alleviated the operational burden, enhancing productivity.

The university can provide normal services even during data failures with storage technology.

It provides an efficient working environment and improved educational conditions for faculty and students.
