Dell & Equinix to help reduce digital infrastructure energy consumption.

Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has partnered with Dell Technologies and Equinix to upgrade the design and deployment of digital infrastructure across the region.

The two companies will partner with the regulator to modernise infrastructure focusing on "sustainable" green technology practices, IMDA said. They would offer guidance and recommendations to optimise the integration and utilisation between hardware and software interfaces.

"Greening our data centres is a strategic focus of our Digital Connectivity Blueprint," said Dr Ong Chen Hui, assistant chief executive of the BizTech Group at IMDA.

IMDA targets to bring in a "comprehensive" process to measure, capture and audit the quantifiable sustainability improvement in the form of energy and carbon emission savings.

Dell Singapore's vice-president and managing director, Andy Sim, said the company has been working on "sustainability" projects from using latest cooling technologies to reducing overall data centre costs.

"We look forward to working with IMDA and Equinix on a solution that can support the Singapore Green Plan 2030," he added.

The Green Plan is a whole-of-nation movement to advance Singapore’s national agenda on sustainable development. It charts concrete targets over the next 10 years strengthening commitments to achieve net zero emissions.

Earlier this year, Singapore launched one of the world’s first standards for optimising energy efficiency of data centres in tropical climates. It is also the first country to join the Green Software Foundation and European Green Digital Coalition to co-create best practices for green software and green digital solutions.

The new partnership will represent another important step towards promoting green ICT practices and driving the development of sustainable digital applications.
