Yazaki Hai Phong Vietnam (Yazaki) - a subsidiary of the Japanese Yazaki Group which manufactures automotive assemblies, has deployed NEC's Smart Bike Parking solution at its Thai Binh factory to improve the employee experience and provide smarter and safer parking management.

Alsok Vietnam Security Services JSC (Alsok) is NEC’s local partner which introduced the 20-terminal parking solution.

It offers security by using NEC's face recognition technology to match the faces of employees, ID cards, and license plates upon every entry and exit.

Alsok was engaged for the security gate and ID card system.

Yazaki Hai Phong Vietnam’s factory manager, Katsutoshi Kono, said the team provided employees with a high-tech and digitised workplace.

He further hopes to expand this project to other back-office functions at the factory and start new projects with NEC and Alsok.

Prior to this project, the guards had to manually verify the ID cards and license plates of bikes of over 3000 workers and issue a paper ticket to be shown at the time of exit.

According to the company, the longer processing times reduced the security's team ability to focus on crucial security tasks.

It added that there was a need to eliminate human error in ID checking, matching the bike license plates to riders, preventing theft of vehicles and unauthorised entry, and digitalise the process for effectively managing the in/out logs.

Digitalised management

Yazaki maintains a database of employees’ IDs.

When an employee rides to the automated gate, the employee has to present an ID card to the scanner, and the face recognition camera scans the face and matches it to the database, the company said.

Another AI-assisted camera scans the vehicle's license plate and checks against the record of authorised vehicles.

According to the company, the face recognition solution identifies, cross-checks, and authenticates employees, even if the face is partially covered, eliminating the risk of identity spoofing.

It added that this allows employees to wear helmets and face masks while entering or exiting the parking area.

Post implementation, every bike entry and exit is digitally logged in the system, allowing access to the logs when necessary.

With paper tickets no longer used, it helps save costs and paper consumption, the company said.
