Assurity Trust Solutions gets new CEO

GovTech veteran Lim Bee Kwan takes over role.

By Amit Roy Choudhury on May 2, 2023 11:55AM

Govtech Singapore has appointed Lim Bee Kwan as the CEO of its wholly-owned subsidiary Assurity Trust Solutions (ATS).

In a LinkedIn post, Lim wrote: “Start of my secondment to Assurity Trusted Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Govtech. Looking forward to work with the team to develop and grow the ATS business.”

The Assurity Trust Framework is designed to provide a secure and reliable way for individuals and businesses to conduct online transactions with government agencies and private sector organisations.

It provides authentication and verification services, allowing users to access digital services with confidence that their identities are secure and protected.

Assurity Trust Solutions was set up by the erstwhile Singapore government IT regulator, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) in 2010 to authenticate online transactions.

Following the bifurcation of IDA into the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) and the Government Technology Agency (GovTech) Assurity is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of GovTech.

Singpass provider

It is an authorised provider of Singapore government-developed Singpass authentication protocol to the private sector, and to date, it has authenticated over 400 million online transactions.

This includes transactions with government agencies, leading private sector enterprises and household names in Singapore.

Lim is a veteran IT professional specialising in cybersecurity and was the Assistant Chief Executive of Cybersecurity and Governance at GovTech before this appointment.

Among other achievements, Lim is an IT committee member of the National University Health System (NUHS) and an executive council member of the Singapore Computer Society (SCS).

A well-regarded advocate of more women joining the technology sector and reaching top positions, Lim is also one of the executive sponsors for Women In (Gov)Tech, an employee resource group within GovTech.

Expanding role

With identity verification being a major focus area of the Singapore government in its battle against online fraud, Assurity Trust Solutions is expected to play an expanded role.

The organisation, which is an  Accredited CA, is the Singapore government’s appointed National Certification Authority (NCA) for the issuance and management of certificates.

NCA is the first organisation in Singapore to achieve WebTrust certification in April 2023.

As a WebTrust-certified organisation, Assurity has undergone a rigorous third-party audit of its systems and processes to ensure it meets or exceeds industry best practices.
