Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS) has appointed Alpesh Patel as the vice president (VP) and head of its Technology Innovation Group.

HMGICS is Hyundai’s smart factory for electric vehicles (EVs) and Hyundai Motor Group's leading open innovation hub.

Patel joins HMGICS from McKinsey & Company, where he was leading aerospace, semiconductor, motorsports industries and logistics projects in the Asia-Pacific region, with a strong focus on Industry 4.0 transformation.

He also founded the Singapore unit of the Digital Capability Center (DCC) in partnership with the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Center (ARTC).

Prior to McKinsey, Patel was a senior aerodynamicist at Ferrari’s Formula One team for seven years, building his expertise in AI and Digital Twins.

He said he is looking forward to bringing experience and skillset to realise HMGIC’s mobility vision.

Patel has been tasked to realise HMGICS’s Smart Factory vision, setting up the Meta Factory, and will lead the charge on developing and managing cutting-edge intelligent manufacturing innovation platforms through Industry 4.0 technologies.

Currently, the centre is establishing a 3D virtual factory as the first step towards establishing the real-time synchronisation of the virtual and physical factory, while targeting to achieve a fully cloud-based operation via a Meta-Factory in 2025.

HMGICS’s CEO, Hong Bum Jung, said the company aims for an intelligent manufacturing value chain that is agile enough to meet the diverse needs of today’s customers.

Patel will be key in strengthening and accelerating the digital transformation of our Smart Factory, he added.
