L&T implements IoT solution to improve operational efficiency

By remote monitoring and control.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the largest infrastructure company in India has implemented tech service provider Mindtree’s IoT solution to enhance operational efficiency.

The solution, built using IoT and data analytics platform Insights Nxt allows users to remotely monitor and control all services at the L&T manufacturing plant to optimise operational costs, energy and utilisation of other resources.

L&T’s senior vice president Derek M Shah said the solution, at their recently-commissioned green hydrogen plant, in Gujarat has helped to effectively reduce the heavy engineering unit’s carbon footprint and adopt new clean energy, improve environmental monitoring and reporting, and improve competitive pricing of products and services. "This significantly enhances our operational efficiency,” he said.

To ensure safe operation and production in the plant spread across 3000 sq. metres, it is said to have incorporated both active and passive safety systems.

The integrated solution equipped with edge-to-experience and IoT capabilities fetches real-time data from various integrated systems like electrolyzer instrumentation, control system, and related ecosystem with advanced AI/ML algorithms.

It provides insights into the performance of the electrolysers and the overall plant.

“It has set a new benchmark in intelligent systems that can turn data into sound sustainability decisions, responsible actions, and profitable outcomes,” said Venu Lambu, executive director at Mindtree.

To ensure safe operation and production, the plant design incorporates both active and passive safety systems and will be operated through state-of-the-art control systems with remote monitoring functionality.

In addition, an integrated data analytics platform designed by L&T will provide insights into the performance of the electrolysers and the overall plant.

Previously, L&T, in 2021, had optimised their entire HR operations where they had built a digital platform that could process entirely from job request creation to onboarding candidates including interviews, remuneration fixing and releasing offer letters.
