Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad has appointed Shahariz Aziz as its new director of digital transformation.

The bank’s CEO Muazzam Mohamed announced the hire on LinkedIn, writing that Aziz has “over 20 years of experience in delivering innovative and large-scale business and technology transformation projects primarily in the banking, insurance, and capital market sectors.”

Aziz lists his previous employer as Deloitte South East Asia; he has also previously worked for other consultancies EY and Accenture.

Mohamed wrote that Aziz’s experience on projects “in various parts of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, specialising in program management and solutions implementation in large-scale business and technology transformation programs” was particularly attractive to the bank.

“[Aziz] has also been at the forefront of many ‘turn-key’ projects for prominent clients, including a regional core banking transformation, a national provident fund’s business transformation, a global bank’s customer service transformation, a digital bank’s license application and the setup and operationalisation of a new bank and Takaful [repayment] business,” Mohamed wrote.

“As we move forward on our digitalisation journey, it is important that we bring on board the right external talents that can develop our capabilities, which will complement the digital upskilling program for our internal talents.

“[Aziz’s] knowledge and experience that will help to deliver on our digitalisation agenda.”
