SC Ventures appoints 'CISO-in-residence'

SC Ventures appoints 'CISO-in-residence'

Former Stan Chart Group security chief shifts.

Standard Chartered’s former Group CISO, Yuval Illuz, has taken a new “CISO-in-residence” role at SC Ventures, a fintech investor and innovation arm of the bank.

Singapore-based Illuz announced the change in a brief LinkedIn post at the end of last month.

iTnews Asia has confirmed that the CISO-in-residence at SC Ventures serves as a subject matter expert for cyber security matters while also taking on an active role with different ventures.

SC Ventures describes itself as "a business unit that provides a platform and catalyst for Standard Chartered to promote innovation, invest in disruptive financial technology and explore alternative business models."

Illuz joined Standard Chartered from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia at the start of 2019. He had been CBA’s IT security chief.

His most recent role was as Group CISO and chief operating officer for the ‘trust, data and resilience’ function at the bank.

iTnews Asia was unable to confirm by the time of publication who had replaced Illuz across all his previous responsibilities at Standard Chartered.

The bank re-hired its one-time global head of technology Alvaro Garrido as Group CISO in May this year.

Garrido left Standard Chartered in January 2016 and has been in Europe as a technology executive for Nordic bank Nordea, and Spanish bank BBVA.

It is not clear if Illuz’ former COO role covering ‘trust, data and resilience’ was directly replaced, or if those responsibilities were incorporated into other existing roles.

iTnews Asia will update this story if it is able to get confirmation of the new bank’s new security structure.
