Fortinet SD-Wan solution to be part of virtual network.

Malaysian telecommunications provider, TIME dotCom Berhad (TIME), has entered into a partnership with cyber security solutions provider Fortinet.

Under the deal, TIME will integrate Fortinet’s secure SD-Wan (software-defined wide area network) solutions into the virtualised networking services of its cloud infrastructure.

Apart from Malaysia, TIME’s fibre optic network is available in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as globally through various ownership stakes in undersea cables.

TIME dotCom’s executive VP for enterprise business, Kit Au, said in addition to the new Fortinet’s security-driven networking technology, the company’s network “is also the first to have passed the Malaysian banking and financial sector’s stringent Network Resilience and Risk Assessment Audit”.

The audit is based on the Malaysian central bank, Bank Negara’s Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) policy.

“We have integrated TIME’s high-quality service with Fortinet’s industry-leading technology, delivering the most robust and secure SD-WAN solution in the Malaysian market,” Au said.

Au said that TIME’s customers who deploy Fortinet solutions would be supported by Fortinet’s cybersecurity mesh platform “that is designed to reduce complexity and increase overall security effectiveness”.

“Fortinet's technology enhances TIME’s network functions virtualisation infrastructure (NFVi) solutions, giving access to… industry-leading threat intelligence to mitigate cyberattacks,” Au said.

He added that TIME's customers will also have access to “coordinated, real-time threat detection and response” via TIME’s virtual secured Customer Premise Equipment (vCPE), virtual Firewall (vFW), and virtual Web Application Firewall (vWAF)”, ensuring consistent security enforcement across flexible perimeters.

TIME’s chief technology officer, Ang Thing Jiun, said the telco was the first service provider in Southeast Asia (SEA) to be certified for MEF Forum’s MEF 3.0 SD-WAN services.

MEF Forum is a global industry association of network, cloud, and technology providers that has developed a framework for digital service providers to develop, monetise, and scale services across an automated, inter-connected ecosystem.

Ang said with Fortinet's Secure SD-WAN as part of its managed services, “TIME's customers gain full visibility across IT environments without compromising networking functionalities”.

He added that this enables businesses to deploy integrated and consistent security practices across the network and shift away from complex point security solutions.
