Malaysian conglomerate Sime Darby Berhad has signed an agreement with digital infrastructure company Equinix to use the latter’s solutions to digitally transform its infrastructure across the region.

Sime Darby will deploy 'platform Equinix' and the company's network edge components to support its digital and sustainability vision, Sime Darby’s group chief information and digital officer, Goh Hai Peow, said.

Founded in 1910, Sime Darby Berhad has a workforce of around 20,000 and a presence in 19 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.

Its business divisions include industrial, automotive, logistics and healthcare.

One of its group companies, Sime Darby Motors, is one of the leading automotive groups in the Asia Pacific and represents brands such as BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Porsche, Ford and Hyundai.

Talking about the collaboration with Equinix, Goh said the company planned to “seamlessly bridge the distance between our distributed digital infrastructure throughout the region and improve agility with accelerated deployment”.

Sime Darby will adopt Equinix’s network edge on Equinix fabric to “achieve secure and stable SD-WAN integration across markets”.

Network edge enables companies to deploy virtual networking services in real-time from multiple vendors, the company said.

According to Equinix, this deployment allows Sime Darby to rapidly scale and adapt to external factors by deploying digital infrastructure as needed, “eliminating prior systems that required shipment, truck-roll and capital expenditure”.
