Logistics services provider DHL has appointed Lau Tian Chen as the new head of its Asia Pacific Innovation Centre (APIC) in Singapore.

Established in 2015, APIC is DHL's first dedicated centre for innovative logistics services in the Asia Pacific and one of four DHL global innovation centres.

Lau has more than two decades of experience in various business units in DHL, with his most recent role being VP, head of business development, at APIC.

"It is an exciting time to deep dive into emerging logistics trends and engages industry partners to advance innovation in the region,” Lau said.

Lau said that APIC explored commercially viable use cases for technologies including IoT, digital twins, big data, and blockchain.

DHL’s global head of innovation and commercial development Matthias Heutger said the company “strives to propagate new technological solutions through our innovation centres."

"I believe Lau's experience, commercial focus and devotion to mentoring colleagues will be invaluable to the APIC team," Heutger said.

APIC hosts a selection of exhibits on key technologies shaping the logistics industry in the future, alongside proof of concepts successfully implemented in DHL's and customers' operations, the company said.

DHL’s other three other innovation centres are located in Troisdorf, Germany; Chicago, USA; and Dubai, UAE.
