The Republic Polytechnic (RP) is working with NVIDIA to start a new Joint Applied AI Innovation and Training programme to meet the growing demand for skills in applied AI in Singapore.
AI has been identified as a frontier technology by Singapore’s Smart Nation strategy and accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
A recent study involving about 500 technology decision-makers across Singapore firms found that almost half of IT professionals in Singapore said that their companies had quickened the adoption of AI tools, such as virtual assistants or chatbots and data security threat detectors since the start of the pandemic.
RP’s new eight-month, full-time programme will nurture a pipeline of specialised AI talent, and is open to those with a relevant polytechnic diploma or bachelor’s degree from recognised institutions. The course is open to those with a relevant polytechnic diploma or bachelor’s degree and graduates can look forward to engineering careers in AI and machine learning.
Students can use NVIDIA GPUs for their course projects
Participants are required to undertake a total of 19 modules, followed by a four-month industry-sourced capstone project from NVIDIA. They will have access a wide range of AI resources including using NVIDIA GPUs to develop AI applications for their coursework and industry attachment projects.
Besides trainer-led courses, the programme also features coaching and mentorship as well as guest talks and seminars from AI industry experts. RP will also work with NVIDIA to identify and facilitate suitable AI job openings and placements and provide career support services for participants.
The list of company names is still being determined by RP but will focus on IT or AI companies leveraging AI tools to grow their businesses.
