Standard Chartered modernises global banking infrastructure

Aims to strengthen operational resilience, security and infrastructure consistency.

Standard Chartered has selected Broadcom's VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) to modernise its global technology infrastructure, as the bank looks to strengthen the security and resilience of its banking services across 54 markets.

The long-term partnership will see the bank adopt a software-defined private cloud platform to support its core banking systems, payments and digital services. The move is aimed at improving operational consistency while helping the bank meet evolving regulatory and security requirements.

According to Broadcom, around 70 percent of Standard Chartered's global infrastructure is already running on the new platform.

The platform is built on VMware Cloud Foundation, which integrates compute, storage, networking and cloud management capabilities into a single software-defined infrastructure stack. Broadcom said the deployment has reduced infrastructure provisioning times from weeks to as little as one day.

John Sharratt, Global Head of Technology and Infrastructure at Standard Chartered, said standardising its infrastructure will help the bank respond more quickly to customer needs while strengthening its technology foundation.

Krish Prasad, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the VMware Cloud Foundation Division at Broadcom, said financial services organisations are increasingly looking to modernise their infrastructure without compromising on security or compliance.

The new platform will underpin Standard Chartered's core banking infrastructure and provide the foundation for future digital and AI initiatives as the bank continues its technology modernisation efforts.
