Standard Chartered has appointed Shebani Baweja as its new Group Chief Data Officer (CDO), effective immediately, as the bank continues to deepen its focus on data governance, analytics and AI-driven transformation.
Based in Singapore, Shebani will report to Alvaro Garrido, Chief Operating Officer for Technology & Operations (T&O) and Chief Information Officer for Information Security & Data and will lead the Group Data Office.
In her new role, Shebani will shape and execute the bank’s enterprise-wide data strategy, focusing on strengthening data governance, building consistent data management practices and accelerating the use of data and analytics across the organisation.
The appointment comes as financial institutions across Asia-Pacific increasingly invest in data-led innovation, AI adoption and digital transformation initiatives to improve operational efficiency, client engagement and risk management.
Shebani brings more than two decades of experience in technology, cybersecurity and transformation leadership. Since joining Standard Chartered in 2008, she has held several senior roles across Wealth and Retail Banking (WRB) and Technology & Operations transformation.
Most recently, she served as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for WRB and International Markets, where she led cyber risk strategy initiatives aimed at strengthening governance and controls while supporting business growth and digitisation efforts.
Shebani said the role comes at a critical time as the banking sector accelerates its adoption of trusted and responsible data practices.
