Scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2029.

Philippine telecommunications company, Globe Telecom, has joined a Singtel-led consortium to build the Asia United Gateway East (AUG East).

AUG East is a new 8,900-kilometre submarine cable system aimed at expanding high-capacity digital infrastructure across Asia.

The consortium has signed a construction contract with NEC Corporation to deploy the cable.

This will link Singapore and Japan, with landing points in the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, and Taiwan.

It is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2029.

AUG East will use high-count fibre pairs to meet growing demand from artificial intelligence (AI) workloads and data-heavy applications.

The cable system is expected to provide additional bandwidth and strengthen network resilience, especially during natural disasters.

Globe joins major players including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, Chunghwa Telecom, Telekom Malaysia, Aeteria Networks, Dreamline, and Unified National Networks.

Globe expects the system to enable faster and secure international connectivity for its enterprise clients.

The aim is to enhance their ability to scale AI-powered applications and expand globally.

Singtel, which chairs the consortium, has invested in multiple cable systems spanning more than 195,000 km and over 30 countries.

This includes the SEA-ME-WE 6 and SEA-J2.
