Philippines Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is exploring potential opportunities to collaborate with Singapore’s Smart Nation Group to advance the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in various sectors.

The Smart Nation Group is part of Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office and is administered by the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI). It guides Singapore’s digital transformation and leads the development of its Smart Nation strategies.

DTI's Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual said the partners would discuss potential areas and is committed to collaborating with international experts and institutions, to harness the transformative power of AI to drive economic growth, enhance public services.

The agency is currently building the AI ecosystem and is set to launch the country’s Center for AI Research (CAIR) next month.

The CAIR will perform collaborative AI research and development and technology applications among government agencies, researchers, universities, research institutes, startups, small and medium enterprises and multinational companies.

It aims to support the digital transformation of local businesses by offering consultancy services and AI tech products.

The DTI has also signed a pact with Siemens Inc. to renew their partnership to promote Industry 4.0 transformation in the Philippines and to unveil Industry 4.0 Pilot Factory this year.

The factory will serve as an experience and learning laboratory, equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as digital twins, industrial software, and automation systems—powered by various technology partners.
