Vietnam’s telecom operator Viettel has announced the opening of a new 30 MW data centre in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park in Hanoi, Vietnam.

According to the telco player, the data centre has over 2,400 racks across 21,000 square metres.

This will meet rising AI demands and is the largest data centre in the country, it added.

Viettel’s chairman and general director, Tao Duc Thang, said the company will invest and expand its scale to 17,000 racks, and by 2030, Viettel will increase its scale to 34,000 racks.

There are plans to build at least three more data centres in the next two years, he added.

Currently, Viettel offers a combined 11,500 racks and over 87 MW of power supply.

It also provides colocation and cloud services from five data centres across Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The data centre has been awarded green certificates, including those for energy management, environmental impact management, and labour hygiene.

It is also termed Vietnam's first data centre to pledge the use of renewable energy to cover 30 percent of its electricity needs.
