Australian data centre platform AirTrunk has started the construction of a new 20 MW data centre in Osaka, Japan.

This move follows the company’s announcement to expand into Osaka with OSK1 data centre in October last year.

According to AirTrunk, the AirTrunk OSK1 (OSK1) facility will service a new major cloud availability zone.

It will complement the company’s existing data centres - TOK1 and TOK2 - in east and west Tokyo, the company added.

Founded in 2016, AirTrunk's initial plan was to develop hyperscale data centres in Australia and opened its first facility in Sydney in 2017.

The company has expanded across the APAC region, operating and developing campuses in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Japan, and Australia.
