Indian data centre company, CtrlS Datacenters (CtrlS), said it will build a new data centre park in the southern Indian state of Chennai.

The campus will comprise two data centre buildings, Chennai DC 1 and Chennai DC 2, which once completed would be capable of supporting 72 MW of critical IT load capacity.

CtrlS will invest US$482.5 million (S$649.38 million) in phases.

According to the company, Chennai DC 1 is fully booked, and will begin operations in the second quarter of 2024.

With an IT load of 27 MW, Chennai DC 2 will launch in the second half of 2024 and is accepting bookings, it added.

CtrlS’ founder and CEO, Sridhar Pinnapureddy said Chennai is the second largest data centre market in India and holds strategic significance because of the “presence of a large number of subsea cable” landing stations, coupled with the growing presence of enterprises and cloud service providers in the region.

This is the company’s fifth hyperscale DC campus in India following Mumbai, Hyderabad, Noida and Bangalore.

According to CtrlS, it is expected to create about 500 direct jobs and over 9,000 indirect jobs.

Recently, CtrlS unveiled plans to invest US$2 billion over the next six years to scale its operations and expand business, with surging demand for data processing and cloud storage across major markets.
