Japanese IT services provider NTT has launched its sixth new data centre in Malaysia's Cyberjaya science park and tech hub at an investment of US$50 million (S$68 million).
The facility, CBJ6, features a critical IT load of 7MW (megawatt) at 4,890 square metres space and densities of up to 15 kW (kilowatt), powered by two 33 kW substations.
NTT said the CBJ6 will complement the Cyberjaya 5 Data Centre, which was built in 2021. The combined facility offers 20,000 square meter of space and has a facility load of 22 MW.
It also noted that the five Cyberjaya data centres have empowered hyperscale enterprises, and with this new site, they can provide reliable infrastructure to support the evolving demands of generative AI.
Ho Yee Chung, Managing Director of NTT Global Data Centres Malaysia, said that over the past two decades, NTT Cyberjaya campus has evolved in sync with Malaysia’s digital growth.
“NTT Malaysia proudly maintains 24/7 high availability, thanks to our skilled team of 60 engineers and operators," he added.
The service provider stated that the soon-to-commence optical submarine cable MIST between Malaysia, Singapore, and India will enable connectivity between CBJ5 and CBJ6 to further enhance Malaysia’s network connectivity.
Spanning an impressive 8,100 km, it boasts a 12-fibre pair capacity capable of transmitting over 200 TBPS of data.
NTT has been expanding its footprint globally with several new investments. It recently in June, launched its hyperscale data centre campus in Chennai, India with an investment of US$150 million, expecting to pitch in another U$150 million in the next phase.
Earlier in March, NTT announced US$90 million investment to build its largest facility with a maximum IT capacity of 12MW in Thailand, targeting to commence operations in the second half of 2024.
