Walmart owned PhonePe taps Cloudera for data management

Walmart owned PhonePe taps Cloudera for data management

Aims for flexible workload migration.

India’s fintech platform PhonePe is partnering with American software company Cloudera to enhance its data management capabilities.

The company has selected the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) to achieve higher scalability and reliability and thus better operational efficiencies.

PhonePe, which is owned by Walmart, has initiated a migration of some of its workloads to CDP, with the rest of the workloads remaining on-premise.

The CDP provides the fintech with the freedom to "securely" move data, applications, and users bi-directionally between the data centres and multiple data clouds, regardless of data location.

Founded in 2015, PhonePe claims to be India’s largest fintech app, catering to 480 Million registered users including consumers and merchants. It offers payment services, including bill payments, investments and insurance products.

With its rapid expansion plans, the firm struggled to manage its large-scale data cluster on a monolithic infrastructure. It had engaged in several discussions with cloud firms to comprehend the challenges, preferences, and long-term objectives, to accordingly develop customised solutions.

PhonePe decided to move to a hybrid data platform that can integrate data management and analytics on-premise and cloud environments.

PhonePe's engineering head Kisalay Ranjan said the firm would now be able to improve customer experience with CDP and related subscription-based support services.

Cloudera’s Shared Data Experience (SDX) will ensure that the CDP is secured by design and will further enable PhonePe to access the data irrespective of its location, without compromise.

The CDP will also help PhonePe in its various business needs through flexible workload migration.

"This helps us (PhonePe) to focus more on continued innovation of our data architecture," he added.
