Singtel has started the construction of its largest, and Singapore’s highest power density, hyper-connected green data centre – DC Tuas, offering 58 MW of IT load capacity.
The 120,000 square feet, eight-storey facility will be operational in 2025, increasing the firm’s total capacity to 118 MW.
It currently provides 60 MW of DC capacity in Singapore.
According to Singtel, this will support the Group’s decarbonisation goals with its low power utilisation effectiveness (PUE).
PUE is calculated by dividing the total amount of power entering a data centre by the power used to run the IT equipment, with overall efficiency improving as the quotient decreases toward one.
DC Tuas will incorporate next-gen cooling capabilities to support customers’ rack density of up to 80 kW per rack with efficient liquid cooling, lowering the PUE to below 1.3, the firm said.
Singtel’s Digital InfraCo, CEO, Bill Chang, said DC Tuas is based on fourth generation design with the highest power density, and is hyper-connected with international submarine cables.
This provides customers with international and domestic connectivity and enhanced network performance including lower latency and improved reliability.
The new data centre is a “key milestone for our new standalone digital infrastructure business to capture the demand for cloud services and the rapid rise of AI adoption in the region,” said Chang.
In February 2023, Singtel has partnered with GULF, and AIS to build a data centre near Bangkok, Thailand's capital, which is also expected to start in 2025 and offer a capacity of 20 MW or more.
