Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has launched a Global Developer Hacker House to provide an end-to-end hybrid setup for developers to learn, practice and build solutions for real-world problems.
It comprises a series of developer engagement programmes in emerging technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AI)/Virtual Reality (VR), Blockchain, and Quantum amongst others.
Built in partnership with government-aided technology ecosystem builder Tribe and investment firm Temasek, the project aims to support 100,000 next-generation developers over the next 2 years.
The Global Developer Hacker House will run offline and online, comprising a series of developer quests, hackathons, meetups and more, in cities around the world including Singapore, New York, Mexico City, London, Seoul and others.
IMDA's assistant chief executive Ong Chen Hui said the Hacker House will not only help in upskilling talent in diverse tech areas but also enable the government to attract new investments, for Singapore.
IMDA has now called for interested companies and developers to get involved with the project house through a Global Developer Hacker website. It is expected that several industry powerhouses such as Meta, Google Cloud and Circle will join Tribe to offer mentorships, networking opportunities and technology assets for developers.
As per the agency, the house will soon partner with AngelHack, one of the world's largest and most diverse developer community platforms with more than 300,000 developers.
Tribe CEO, Yi Ming Ng said such partnerships will "bring together public and private sectors whilst building a space to spur the next generation of developers while allowing corporations to be able to work with these talent pools."
