Hyperscale data centre provider, Vantage Data Centers, is planning to invest SGD 4.02 billion (US $3 billion) into a second data centre campus - KUL2 - in Malaysia's Cyberjaya science park and tech hub.
Once complete, it will deliver 256MW of IT capacity to meet growing customer demands.
The campus is located adjacent to the existing KUL1.
The KUL2 campus will include 10 facilities and provide low-latency connectivity to major cities in the region, including Singapore, Bangkok and Jakarta.
According to Vantage, the first facility is planned to open its doors in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Vantage Data Centers currently has seven campuses across the Asia Pacific region that are either operational or under development.
Combined IT capacity of 287MW
Further, Vantage is expanding its KUL1 campus with a fourth 16MW facility that is currently under development.
Combined, both KUL1 and KUL2 campuses will deliver a total of 287MW of IT capacity, Vantage said.
Vantage's chief operating officer, APAC business, Giles Proctor, said the company is expanding its footprint in Malaysia, and the positive experience in Cyberjaya has encouraged it to take further steps to advance the city's digital infrastructure by building the largest hyperscale campus in the region.
Vantage has signed an agreement with Cyberview - the tech hub developer of Cyberjaya, mandated by the government of Malaysia - to move towards the implementation of the stated investment.
It was signed in the presence of Malaysia’s Minister for Communications and Digital, YB Fahmi Fadzil, and the US Ambassador to Malaysia, Brian D. McFeeters.
