French cloud services provider OVHcloud launches first DC in India

French cloud services provider OVHcloud launches first DC in India

Plans for additional data centres in Singapore and Australia by 2024.

By Amit Roy Choudhury on Mar 21, 2023 12:08PM

French cloud computing company, OVHcloud has launched its first data centre in India at a location in Mumbai.

The new facility is a part of the company's Asia Pacific expansion plans, which also includes two other data centres, one in Singapore and another in Australia by next year. The company already has a data centre in Singapore and two in Sydney, Australia.

The Mumbai facility is part of the company’s recently announced global strategic plan to build 15 new data centre sites by 2024.

The Mumbai facility leverages OVHcloud’s existing presence in India through its Mumbai Point of Presence (PoP) opened in 2020 to minimise latency between India and Europe.

With the launch of the new Singapore and Sydney facilities next year, Asia Pacific would account for six of the company’s global network of 48 data centres.

OVHcloud’s CEO, Michel Paulin said the Asia Pacific region has experienced phenomenal growth in its digital economy.

“India, Singapore and Australia remain critical markets that are driving this growth from a business transformation and digital innovation perspective,” he added.

“Data sovereignty and sustainability will continue to be key priorities that have to be balanced with rapidly increasing digital needs… We are confident that new data centres will further help OVHcloud’s goal of becoming the cloud provider of choice for customers in the region, Paulin said.

He added that by manufacturing its own servers, OVHcloud’s integrated industrial model enables a “sustainable cloud by design, with Carbon Usage Effectiveness of 0.2".

OVHcloud’s VP and GM for APAC, Terry Maiolo, said the Mumbai data centre would benefit from OVHcloud “proprietary water-cooling technology”.

“This new data centre pushes the group’s technological and industrial expertise further by adapting its infrastructure to meet tropical conditions,” Maiolo said.

“Already one of our top-performing markets in the APAC region, India continues to demonstrate remarkable potential for business growth. The strategic deployment of our first data centre in India is a firm testimony to that potential, and an affirmation of our commitment to customers and partners here,” he added.
