Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), an international ship classification society, has tapped Dassault Systèmes to leverage virtual twin technology to optimise the performance and efficiency of complex marine and offshore projects.

IRS’ executive chairman, Arun Sharma, said the society will use Dassault’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform to create a virtual twin for better vessel lifecycle management, offer digital services on a unified platform, and provide end-to-end digital traceability.

Founded in 1975, IRS is a not-for-profit entity that provides ship classification and certification as well as technical inspection services.

Dassault will help IRS improve and implement data-driven decision-making, concept design, engineering, integrated operations, and maintenance processes.

The collaboration will help IRS speed up research and development (R&D) and monitor crucial key performance indicators (KPIs) of customers’ assets, Sharma said.

Dassault Systèmes’ managing director, India, Deepak N G, said the company’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform “transform shipbuilding practices” to support strategic objectives and sustainably.

Recently, IRS established a presence in Manila in the Philippines to strengthen its presence in South-East Asia.
