Singtel and Gulf energy have commenced the construction of a new 20MW data centre in Bangkok, along with Thailand's largest mobile phone operator Advanced Info Service (AIS).

The centre, scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2025 will be operated by their joint venture company GSA Data Center Company Limited (GSA) which will combine the three companies' expertise in the development and operation of hyperscale data centres.

The hyperconnected data centre will feature state-of-the-art technologies including comprehensive security, access control systems and efficient energy management. It intends to serve diversified global enterprise customers and cloud service providers.

GSA’s chief executive officer Ravi Kurmarohita said their new data centre seeks to integrate cutting-edge technology and renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance efficiency in energy management to support sustainable operations.

He added that the company sees a strong growth potential of the data centre business in a move towards digital transformation.

In October 2021, Singtel announced plans to form a new data centre company focused on Southeast Asia, along with Gulf Energy. The partners had signed an MoU to build and develop data centres in Thailand. It has also tapped its longtime partner Telkom Indonesia to acquire and build assets.

In addition to the data centre in Thailand, Singtel is now developing a data centre with a capacity of 51 MW in Indonesia together with partners Telkom Indonesia and Medco Power. It is also adding capacity in Singapore with a new build in Tuas.
