Singapore’s Government Chief Digital Technology Officer (GCDTO), Chan Cheow Hoe, has taken on an additional role as senior advisor to the Economic Development Board of Singapore (EDB).

Chan posted on LinkedIn that he would continue to hold the post of GCDTO within the Smart Nation and Digital Government Office (SNDGO) as head of profession for technology in Singapore while taking on the new advisory role in EDB.

At EDB, Chan will focus on the digital industry and help in developing new value propositions to attract global companies and talent to Singapore.

Chan added that we would give up his role as the deputy chief executive (DCE) officer at the Government Technology Agency (GovTech).

“There is no way I will have any sleep if I hold on to three roles,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

Chan was appointed GCDTO in November 2018 and has been overseeing the development of Singapore’s digital infrastructure and digital technology capabilities along with the crucial role of developing talent in the ICT and smart systems area.

As GCDTO he was responsible for the development and delivery of innovative government digital services for citizens and businesses, especially during the crucial Covig-19 pandemic lockdown period.

At GovTech Chan helped create multi-disciplinary teams that developed and managed key digital products like the National Digital identity.

In his LinkedIn post, Chan said he had been in GovTech for nine years and “that is a long time”.

Chan was part of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA). When IDA was bifurcated into the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) and the Government Technology Agency (GovTech), Chan, along with the current EDB Managing Director Jacqueline Poh, created the GovTech organisation and brought together disparate government technology teams to create one cohesive unit responsible for the government's technology needs.

Chan added that the “single most important achievement for me” is that GovTech had managed to grow a team of world-class leaders and a highly capable organisation “that is ready to take GovTech on the next phase of the journey”.

“The testament of leadership is how to make yourself redundant by creating a great team. Guess I have done that at this point and it’s time to let a new generation of leaders flourish,” Chan said in his post.

Prior to joining the government, Chan held senior appointments in banks and consulting companies specialising in technology, operations, finance and business.
