India's food delivery firm Zomato’s CTO quits

Continuing spate of top-level exits from the company.

India’s online food delivery aggregator Zomato’s co-founder and chief technology officer Gunjan Patidar has resigned after a nearly 10-year stint at the firm.

Patidar is credited with building the “core tech systems” of the company and also for setting up a tech leadership team at Zomato during his tenure, the company said in an exchange filing on Monday.

He was responsible for all the technology and engineering efforts.

“He also nurtured a tech leadership team that is capable of taking on the mantle of leading the tech function going forward. His contribution to building Zomato has been invaluable,” the firm said.

Patidar, a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi had interned with Zomato during his third year of college. He had previously worked for a US-based event management company Cvent.

He then joined Zomato full-time, rising through the ranks to become the CTO of Zomato. Patidar has not yet hinted at his plans after his resignation.

His departure followed exits by Mohit Gupta, another co-founder, and two other senior executives last month. The reason behind the departures still remains unclear.

The company, backed by Ant Group, Temasek and Goldman Sachs, went public mid-2021, reporting a net loss of US$30.4 million (S$40.7 million) for the quarter that ended in September last year. The losses had widened by nearly 35 percent in the quarter following the acquisition of quick commerce company Blinkit.
