Grab promotes veteran to group CTO

To drive firm’s technology vision.

Grab has appointed Suthen Thomas Paradatheth as group chief technology officer (CTO), beginning next month.

Paradatheth's mandate is to drive the firm’s technology vision, strategy and execution across its deliveries, mobility, and financial services businesses.

In particular, Paradatheth will be charged with “strengthening Grab’s technical infrastructure to enable deeper super-app synergies and faster product innovation,” the company said in a statement.

Starting as the first technical lead in Grab, when it was founded in 2012, Paradatheth has been part of the teams that developed many of the firm’s products and platforms.

Based in Singapore, Paradatheth will be report directly to Grab’s co-founder, Tan Hooi Ling, and oversee Grab’s global network of eight research and development (R&D) centres.

Over the past decade, he held both technical and operational leadership roles in he company and founded the business operations team of the company.

Paradatheth also led the development of many Grab products and platforms related to the company’s deliveries and mobility services from a small base to its current multi-billion gross merchandise value (GMV) business.

In 2020, Grab promoted Paradatheth to the post of chief technology officer of mobility, automation and platform excellence, deliveries, and experiences.

In this role, he was leading over 1000 engineers, data scientists and technical program managers across various countries to design, build and optimise large-scale systems powering Grab’s verticals.

“Paradatheth’s experience in technology and operations” closely mirrors the nature of Grab's business, which is about bridging offline services to online consumers, Tan said.

This enables him to truly “understand our unique technological needs”, he added.
