PP Telecommunication Sdn Bhd (PPTEL), a telecommunications provider based in Sarawak, Malaysia, has selected Juniper Networks to develop solutions to build a new core network that will support its growth plans.
This new network will provide the foundation to help PPTEL meet the demand for critical high-speed internet connectivity, enabling consumers and businesses access “richer digital experiences and services”, said PPTEL’s CEO Jonathan Smith.
PPTEL chose Juniper’s MX series universal routing platforms and QFX series switches for its new core network to “deliver industry-leading system capacity, density, security and performance”, Smith said.
PPTEL’s network upgradation coincides with Sarawak Multimedia Authority’s (SMA) plans to fast track the state’s digital economy.
Smith said PPTEL’s infrastructure, including submarine cables from strategic locations in the region, puts it in a “unique position” to support these plans.
He added that PPTEL is also building its first Tier IV data centre in East Malaysia that will “help drive Sarawak’s digital economy”.
PPTEL's Juniper powered network, in combination with its BaSICS Cable System, will enable it provide high-quality, low-latency connectivity to consumers and businesses in Sarawak and Southeast Asia (SEA), Smith said.
Smith added that as Sarawak and the rest of Malaysia prepare for fifth generation mobile telephony (5G) “the solutions offered by Juniper will enable PPTEL to scale our network efficiently” and ensure customers are able to fully harness the benefits of 5G connectivity.
