Singapore-based coupon, shopping and rewards platform, ShopBack has appointed San Wai Oo as chief technology officer.
The company said San, who will lead ShopBack’s 250-strong technology team across the company’s regional hubs, will drive ShopBack's vision, enable technology-led business growth for merchants, and develop new value propositions for users.
San brings with him over 17 years of leadership experience.
Most recently, he was based in San Francisco as Slack’s VP of engineering where, among other accomplishments, he built Slack’s engineering development centre in India and oversaw engineering organisations across the US and Canada.
Prior to joining Slack, San held leadership positions at LinkedIn, Yahoo!, and several early-stage startups, and also helped found two companies.
ShopBack’s co-founder and CEO, Henry Chan, said San’s experience in building infrastructure, helping businesses scale and growing high-performance organisations “will help us accelerate the growth of ShopBack”.
Talking about his new role, San said, "I’m beyond excited to join ShopBack at this inflection point in the company’s growth”.
San joins ShopBack during a period of growth for the company, which has operations in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Taiwan, apart from Singapore.
It acquired hoolah, a “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) player in Southeast Asia, in December 2021, and also launched a new payment product, ShopBack Pay, earlier this year.
During the same period, ShopBack has appointed ex-Zip executive Hamish Moline as MD, financial services, and ex-Fave executive Aik-Phong Ng as MD, in-store and payments.
