Singapore Airlines Cargo (SIA Cargo) has signed on to German digital airfreight marketplace aggregator cargo.one data and analytics platform, as part of an ongoing business-wide effort to digitise its operations.
The company said that “with a few clicks, freight forwarders using cargo.one can search, book, amend and track SIA Cargo bookings in real-time.”
Customers can also collaborate with colleagues on freight bookings on one platform.
Freight operations have kept airlines flying throughout the pandemic. The mass move to e-commerce ordering and border closures created a supply chain crunch that has made cargo capacity lucrative.
SIA Cargo said that being on cargo.one would help it gain access to a “large global user base of freight forwarders.”
The platform offered “the best possible digital experience for its cargo customers”, the company said.
Cargo.one’s digital credentials were a reason to sign on, with SIA Cargo in the midst of its own digital transformation.
“At Singapore Airlines, (SIA), we are committed to the continued digitalisation of all areas of our business,” senior vice president of cargo Chin Yau Seng said in a statement.
“Through our partnership with cargo.one, we have the ability to offer our customers an enhanced online booking experience with greater speed, flexibility, and convenience.
“This is one of many steps that we are taking to provide a more seamless experience for our cargo customers”.
The cargo.one platform gives SIA access to “real-time data feeds, market insights and benchmarks” that will help it to adjust pricing and manage revenue in a competitive freight market.
The partnership with cargo.one will take effect in several phases.
In the first phase, from July 2022 freight forwarders “will have access to SIA Cargo’s capacity using the cargo.one marketplace,” the airline said.
“The partnership provides cargo.one users with additional access to sought-after Asian destinations such as Singapore, Bangkok, Shanghai, and Manila,” it added.
SIA Cargo serves over 90 destinations with a fleet of seven Boeing 747-400F freighter aircraft, as well as via the SIA Group’s passenger fleet.
The division is already seeing record growth and revenue, as it takes advantage of the “capacity crunch in air freight and ocean freight, as well as ongoing supply chain disruptions that continue to drive the demand” for its services.
